Why Jeremiah 1:5 doesn’t prove an LDS preexistence

Mormons claim that Jeremiah 1:5 supports the LDS doctrine of preexistence, but Christians disagree. Often, this verse is used as a trump card to demonstrate that the Christian rejection of a premortal life is absurd.

If this text in Jeremiah that that definitive, then how do Christian interpret it? Why does Christianity still say that humanity did not preexist, even with verses such as this one which states clearly that God knew us before we were born?

LDS beliefs are quite contrary to the beliefs of Christians. As a Christian ministry, we want to help our Latter-day Saint friends understand what the Bible teaches about core areas of doctrine. The preexistence and the doctrines associated with it imply truths that, quite simply, aren’t supported in the Bible. As such, it’s important for us to evaluate these claims, and investigate what the Bible REALLY teaches.
