Response to Renlund’s “Your Divine Nature and Eternal Destiny” General Conference Talk
In April 2022, LDS Apostle Dale Renlund gave a talk titled “Your Divine Nature & Eternal Destiny.” Here, he spoke about the LDS Young Women Theme (posted down below). In this talk, he encouraged LDS church members to consider the significance of the words of that theme, and explained what each of the theme’s statements mean.
However, some of his claims and teachings grate against some ideas and practices that many modern Latter-day Saints hold dear! He talked about Heavenly Mother, and how Mormons should NOT pray to her. He ALSO spoke about the need to “qualify for exaltation” and how important it is for members of the LDS Church to keep the various laws and ordinances. These kinds of ideas, once very popular in Mormonism, have fallen by the wayside.
Many Latter-day Saints love the idea of Heavenly Mother, and ENCOURAGE devotion to her, and others downplay the need for works/laws/ordinances in being exalted. Yet Renlund, in General Conference, spoke clearly about these issues.
In this video, Luke Wayne (CARM) joins us to respond to Renlund’s talks. We not ONLY show how these claims are at odds with the felt theology and practice of many Latter-day Saints, but ALSO how his claims are boldly unbiblical.

LDS YOUNG WOMEN’S THEME:
“I am a beloved daughter of heavenly parents, with a divine nature and eternal destiny. As a disciple of Jesus Christ, I strive to become like Him. I seek and act upon personal revelation and minister to others in His holy name. I will stand as a witness of God at all times and in all things and in all places. As I strive to qualify for exaltation, I cherish the gift of repentance and seek to improve each day. With faith, I will strengthen my home and family, make and keep sacred covenants, and receive the ordinances and blessings of the holy temple.”
